The 2015 Met Gala, as you might already know, will highlight amazing fashion artistry and carftsmanship of design inspired by the East. As May 4th being literally days away, China’s pre-eminent designer Huishan Zhang has garnered plenty of attention for his Barney’s four-piece capsule collection inspired by this year’s Met Gala China: Through The Looking Glass. For the collection Zhang chose to stick with his Chinese roots by using the color red, the dragon motif and China’s lucky number eight as a starting point for his collection.
Zhang entire collection, as well as the designer’s collection in Barney’s are made in China. And while those words- “Made in China” are mainly entails with knock-offs or poorly made clothing the designer over-sees the quailty and also use fair-business practices. “The reason it’s important to make things in China for me is, I’m from China. I have to be truthful to myself. I always believe we can do something better. At this time it’s pretty difficult to find a supplier who can consider producing something high end, so we decided to build our own atelier from nothing. At the beginning, it was only me and my aunt in my parents’ apartment,” he smiled, adding, “And now you and I are sitting together at Barneys, another major account that’s picked us up.”
If you have the bank to splurge a little. Huishan Zhang Barney’s New York collection retails from $2,495 to $7,800 in stores and Barney’s.
